About the Journal

Journal of Learning Theory and Methodology (JLTM)

Journal of Learning Theory and Methodology (JLTM) is an international peer-reviewed open-access journal that publishes research on the theoretical and methodological foundations of learning processes.

The journal focuses on learning as a structured and controllable process, with particular attention to skill acquisition, instructional design, and the analysis of conditions that determine learning effectiveness.

JLTM covers both motor and cognitive domains of learning, integrating research in didactics, learning psychology, and educational methodology. The journal provides an international platform for studies that combine theoretical frameworks with methodologically rigorous empirical research.

Focus and Scope

JLTM publishes original research articles, analytical papers, and reviews addressing learning as an explainable and measurable process.

The journal prioritizes manuscripts that:

  • focus on mechanisms of learning rather than descriptive outcomes;
  • are grounded in learning theory and didactics;
  • use transparent experimental or quasi-experimental designs;
  • analyze how instructional conditions influence learning processes and results;
  • contribute to methodological development in learning research.

Thematic Areas

JLTM considers manuscripts in the following interrelated areas:

  1. Didactics of Motor and Verbal Learning
    Instructional design, teaching methods, and learning models related to the acquisition of motor and verbal skills across educational stages.
  2. Didactics of Secondary Education
    Learning processes, instructional interventions, and pedagogical regulation in school education, with emphasis on experimentally grounded approaches.
  3. Didactics of Higher Education
    Teaching and learning in higher education, including curriculum design, learning strategies, assessment, and student development.
  4. Psychological Foundations of Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Development
    Cognitive, motivational, and self-regulatory processes underlying learning, skill acquisition, and educational performance.

Methodological Orientation

The Editorial Board primarily considers manuscripts that:

  • explicitly focus on the learning process;
  • include a simulated or controlled experimental learning situation;
  • define independent variables representing instructional or pedagogical factors that influence learning;
  • define dependent variables that characterize the effectiveness of learning or instructional programs;
  • use medico-biological, psychophysiological, or psychological indicators as explanatory variables to interpret learning outcomes, rather than as isolated endpoints.

Studies that lack a clear connection to learning theory, instructional design, or methodological explanation of learning effectiveness are unlikely to be accepted.

Publication Frequency

JLTM is published three times per year.

Publication Fees

The journal does not charge any fees for article submission, peer review, publication, or processing.

All costs associated with editorial processing, peer review management, proofreading, layout, publication of current issues, DOI registration (including annual and current Crossref payments), web hosting, digital archiving, support of the open-access policy, licensing of specialized software, and organizational activities of the Editorial Board are fully covered by the publisher.

Open Access Policy

JLTM is an open access journal, which means that all published content is freely available to users without charge.

Readers are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles, and to use them for any other lawful purpose, without prior permission from the publisher or authors, in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access.

Archiving

JLTM utilizes the LOCKSS system to ensure long-term digital preservation through a distributed archiving network among participating libraries.

In addition, the electronic version of the journal is archived and indexed in the V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, ensuring national-level preservation and accessibility.
